Cities vs. Suburbs: Who’s Moving Where?

Let’s talk about the perennial battle between the cities and the suburbs.  A few years ago, it seemed like there were tons of articles about how people were choosing to move to cities, rather than the suburbs, And it wasn’t just hype, from 2010 to 2014 the country’s largest cities grew faster than they had in years. Access to amenities, easy commutes, and walkability were some of the elements about city life that were very attractive, especially with millenials.

But new data shows that trend may be softening, particularly in our NYC metropolitan area. 2017 was, in fact, the first time in ten years, that New York wasn’t the nationwide leader in population growth, as more people moved out the city than moved in.

The reasons? Well, a big part is that housing prices in cities like New York are rising exponentially high, and that makes the suburbs are more affordable and attractive option. Suburban communities have also answered the call in providing more commuting options and attractive recreational and lifestyle amenities.

These are things we definitely offer in the Midtown Direct area, and why we continue to be such a sought-after location. So it looks like this is good news for our market!
